An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow, although the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Gray was among the founding members of the worldwide known band, formed in 1995.
In 2003, he had been arrested for drink-driving and possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. On that occasion, a leaked mugshot was the first public picture of Gray without wearing the home-made mask that are a Slipknot trademark.
