Catalonia officially outlawed the practice of bullfighting from its region last Wednesday with a Parliament vote.
After animal rights activists campaigned for years, for the first time on mainland Spain the century-old spectacle that attracts at the same time tourism and criticism has been banned by Catalunian Parliament.
Josep Rull, MP for the Catalonian nationalist party (CiU) said: "There are some traditions that can't remain frozen in time as society changes. We don't have to ban everything, but the most degrading things should be banned."
