General Stanley McChrystal, the top man in charge of the ISAF operation in Afghanistan, has been sacked this evening by US president Barack Obama, following the chaos ignited by an interview given by McChrystal to Rolling Stone.
In the Rolling Stone article - available here - the general and some of his closest staff openly criticised figures in the White House, calling one "clown" and another "a wounded animal". McChrystal had to face hard accusations of insubordination, and was summoned to the White House this afternoon for a face-to-face talk with the president.
McChrystal has been now replaced with Gen. David Patraeus, the chief commander of the war in Iraq.

It couldn't be a Lilly or a taffy-daffy- dilly,
It's got to be a rose cause it rhymes with Mose."

BP's chief 'kicks the can down the road as if he had nothing to do with it' and denies involvment in Gulf plant oil leak disaster
Tony Hayward, BP's chief executive, gave his testimony in front of the US Congress yesterday about the environmental disaster of BP's oil plant in the Gulf, from which thousands of barrells of oil are still leaking into the ocean.
The committee confronted Hayward with precise and direct questions, to which he many a time failed to give e proper and direct answer, repeating "It wasn't me" and "we haven't drawn any conclusion yet". The Congress defined his testimony "uncooperative" and "insulting".

Countdown - the truth
At last, I have to confess it. The whole countdown was faulted, because of an error in the original methodology applied to it. In simple terms, I counted in the wrong way. A proper countdown would have ended tomorrow, so that today would have been -1.
Anyway, here I am, still waiting, another long day.

Intercettazioni - comunicato Odg
